Buzz Words Make Tragedy Okay to Discuss Lightly

William Shatner's 911 call after he found his wife at the bottom of their pool was the ultimate in meta. It was post-modern genius.

All of the entertainment news programs -- hell, even the legitimate news programs -- kept airing a recording of his call. They just thought it was funny, particularly since he hung up in the middle of it to get his wife out of the pool (apparently it didn't occur to him to do so until the 911 operator mentioned it). To them, it was an amusingly morbid soundbite. But the rest of us? We saw the art.
