On TV
The Sipowicz

My job requires that I catalogue and reformat instructional videos. They pertain to mining or geology or blowing things up, and usually begin with a man sitting at a desk and then turning toward a camera that has apparently just come into being. They're fun to watch.

Most of these videos were filmed in the 90's and are composed entirely of men doing man things. This has led me to realize how incredibly prevalent the "short-sleeved dress shirt with tie" look was during the last decade.

If I'm not mistaken, this look and its general acceptance in society was largely (if not entirely) prompted by Dennis Franz's character, Andy Sipowicz, on NYPD Blue. Its origin and influence makes it the male equivalent of "The Rachael".

Of course, acknowledging this fact would have made the look much less manly.
